Council To Consider Addition Of Bike Lanes On Glenwood Ave

In September, the Golden Valley City Council will consider a proposal by Hennepin County to install bikes lanes on Glenwood Ave between Hwy 100 in Golden Valley and Thomas Ave in Minneapolis as part of a resurfacing project the County will complete in 2020.

Over the past several months, County and City staff met with a study group comprised of interested residents to review existing conditions and options for this section of Glenwood Ave. The group discussed short-term, mid-term, and long-term improvements for the corridor, including sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and intersection and bridge improvements. An open house was held Aug 8 at Brookview for the public to review the plans.

The proposed bike lanes are expected to be similar to those installed on Glenwood Ave in 2017 between Turners Crossroad and Hwy 55. These included painted bike lanes with markings and signage, a 2-foot buffer lane, and vehicle lanes.

The Golden Valley City Council will review and discuss the plans at a Council/Manager meeting Sept 10, 6:30 pm. The Council is also expected to consider parking restrictions for this section of Glenwood Ave at the Council meeting Sept 17, 6:30 pm.
