Prompt 911 Calls Last Weekend Led To Immediate Arrest Of Suspects
Thanks to an immediate call to 911 this past weekend, Golden Valley police were able to arrive at a crime scene in time to arrest a number of people for theft and tampering with autos.
On Sat, Aug 24, 4:56 am, a resident called to report a vehicle break-in near 23rd Ave N and Decatur Ave N in Golden Valley and four to five kids carrying bags in the neighborhood. Thanks to the prompt 911 officers were able to get to the area quickly and utilize infrared technology to locate and arrest six individuals, five adults and one juvenile, for theft and tampering with autos.
The Golden Valley Police Department (GVPD) reports five victims in this case and asks that any residents who believe their property was affected to contact the GVPD at 763-593-8079.
According to the GVPD, the big difference in this case is the victim called 911 right away, and officers got to the scene quickly and made arrests. In a similar situation Aug 26 at the Hello Apartments in Golden Valley, a resident called to report a vehicle break-in, which led to Golden Valley officers arresting the suspects who were still in the area.
If you see a car that has been broken into or tampered with, or if you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call 911 right away.
More Crime Prevention Tips
- Don’t leave valuables in your car in plain sight. Even if a car is locked but a purse, bag, or wallet is visible inside, thieves can and will break windows to enter a car.
- Do not leave garage door openers in vehicles that are parked outside. This could lead to a thief breaking into your home.
- Crime can happen at any time of the day. Reporting suspicious activity while it is happening could save you or your neighbor from being victimized.
