BCWMC To Host Smart Salting Certification Class For Commercial Property Owners Sept 24

The Bassett Creek Water Management Commission (BCWMC) is hosting a free Smart Salting Certification Class for commercial property owners and managers Sept 24, 9 am–1 pm, at the Crystal Community Center (4800 Douglas Dr N, Crystal, MN 55429).

The class will cover topics such as the environmental and infrastructural impacts of salt, Smart Salting techniques, how to limit your liability and keep your property safe, and much more.

City Environmental Specialist Drew Chirpich recommends residential and commercial property owners learn smarter and safer ways to salt to better protect Golden Valley’s local waterways.

“Managing the amount of salt used during the winter months is extremely important,” he says. “Just a teaspoon of salt permanently pollutes five gallons of water. Once contaminated, it is nearly impossible to remove this salt from the water supply.”

Funding for the workshop is provided by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency through a grant from the US EPA, Section 319 Nonpoint Source Management Fund.

Registration for the Smart Salting Certification Class is required. To learn more and to register, visit the BCWMC website.
