Absentee Voting Starts Today For March 3 Primary
January 17, 2020
Absentee voting begins today for the March 3 Presidential Primary Election. Registered voters can vote by mail or in person at City Hall before Election Day instead of at their polling place.
Voters will select one of the two major political parties (Democratic-Farmer-Labor or Republican) and vote for the candidate they want to represent the party in the Nov 2020 presidential election. As of Jan 3, 2020, one Republican candidate and 15 Democratic candidates will appear on Minnesota ballots. A full list of candidates can be found on the Minnesota Secretary of State website.
Residents will need to register if they have never voted and will need to re-register if their name has changed, they have a different address, or they have not voted in four years. Preregistration for the primary election closes Feb 11 at 5 pm, or registration can be done the day of the presidential primary at polling places with required information to prove residency. On Election Day, you must vote in your own precinct. The full list of Golden Valley precincts can be found here.
