CenterPoint Energy To Start Winnetka Ave N Pipeline Work March 30 At 10th Ave
March 19, 2020
As part of its continuing Metro Belt Line Project, CenterPoint Energy will begin work March 30 on Winnetka Ave N between 10th Ave and 42nd Ave N in Golden Valley, New Hope, and Crystal. Drivers should expect delays for the duration of the project and use alternate routes.
This multiyear project involves replacing more than 60 miles of large-diameter pipeline originally installed in the 1940s and 1950s. The pipeline modernization program aims to ensure continued safe, reliable delivery of natural gas that homes and businesses depend on for heating, cooking, and hot water.
Phase 1 (Winnetka Ave N from 23rd to 42nd Avenues N)
From March 30 to early May, crews will replace the first of the project’s two pipe mains with modern materials. Two-way traffic will be maintained with a lane closure.
Phase 2 (Winnetka Ave N between 23rd and 42nd Avenues N)
Tentatively scheduled to begin in late April and continue for several weeks, this phase involves connecting customer gas service lines to the main installed in Phase 1. As necessary, this work may include service line replacement and relocating gas meters from inside the home to outside.
Phase 3 (Winnetka Ave N between 10th and 42nd Avenues N)
From June 1 to late October, a second pipe main will be replaced under the east side of the road. Crews will work on one to two blocks at a time, taking one to two weeks per block. Two-way traffic will be maintained with a lane closure.
Crews from CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Q3 Contracting, will restore the areas affected by work outside the city’s and county’s construction zones—typically the boulevard, sidewalks, and lawns.
