Some Street Projects In The City Have Started, Others Are Just Around The Corner
March 31, 2020
Street construction season is just around the corner. Here’s what to expect in Golden Valley.
This year’s PMP will reconstruct 1.27 miles of City streets in northeast Golden Valley (see map). Scheduled to begin late April or early May, the project will also repair storm sewers, water mains, and sanitary sewer mains and bring curbs and gutters up to City standards. Work is expected to be completed this fall.
Glenwood Ave Overlay
Hennepin County’s project to repave Glenwood Ave between Hwy 100 and Thomas Ave in Minneapolis is scheduled for this summer and will take around two weeks to complete, weather permitting. The road is not expected to close, but drivers should expect delays. Residents will have access to driveways during the project.
CenterPoint Energy Beltline (Winnetka Ave N)
The CenterPoint Energy project started March 30 and will replace the natural gas mains under Winnetka Ave N from 10th Ave N in Golden Valley to 42nd Ave in New Hope. The road is not expected to close, but traffic will shift to the east or west side of Winnetka Ave N as needed.
Railroad Crossing Improvements
The Union Pacific Railroad will replace crossings at 10th Ave N and Mendelssohn Ave N near the intersection of the two streets. Although exact timing of this work is not yet known, when the project begins each street will be closed for approximately one week. Detours will be posted ahead of time and information regarding the
closures will be published on the City website.
2020 Bike Lane Striping
At its April 14 work session, the City Council is scheduled to consider a proposed project to stripe several streets with designated bicycle lanes (see maps). The City held an open house Feb 19 at City Hall for residents to review project plans, ask questions, and provide feedback.
