Absentee Voting At City Hall Starts Today

Absentee voting for the 2020 general election begins today and runs through Mon, Nov 2. Election Day is Tues, Nov 3.

votebuttonAny eligible voter may vote by absentee ballot for any reason, and absentee ballots can be cast by mail or in person. Check the City website for the requirements and process for voting absentee.

Vote By Mail

To vote by mail, apply online or print and complete an absentee ballot application (PDF) and return it to Hennepin County Elections either in person, by mail, email, or fax.

If you apply more than 46 days before the election, your ballot will be mailed to you at least 46 days prior to the election. If you apply within 46 days of the election, your ballot will be mailed to you within a day or two of your application being received.

Once you’ve completed your ballot, return it by mail or in person at Golden Valley City Hall.

Vote By Agent

In special situations, you may ask an agent to pick up and return your ballot for you within the seven days preceding the election. To qualify, you must live in a nursing home, assisted living facility, residential treatment center, group home, battered women’s shelter, or be hospitalized or unable go to your polling place due to a disability.

Your agent must be 18 years old, have a pre-existing relationship with you, and cannot be a candidate. An individual cannot be an agent of more than three voters in an election. Learn more at mnvotes.org.

Absentee Voting

Golden Valley City Hall is open 8 am–4:30 pm, Mon–Fri through election day.

Direct balloting, where voters place completed ballots directly into the voting machine, begins Oct 27, 2020. Extended absentee voting hours are available the Saturday and Monday before the election (Oct 31, 10 am–3 pm, and Nov 2 until 5 pm).

The voting process will look slightly different, as the City is asking voters to adhere to health and safety guidelines set forth by the State of Minnesota and Minnesota Department of Health. Voters should know wait times are expected to be longer while absentee voting at City Hall and on election day as social distancing measures will be taken and building capacity restrictions will be in place. Read more.

Election Day Voting

All polling places in Golden Valley will be open 7 am–8 pm on election day, Nov 3. The same health and safety guidelines used during in-person absentee voting will also apply to election day voting. Read more.
