Support Local Businesses With Hennepin County’s Love Local Initiative

In response to the economic impacts of COVID-19 on small businesses, Hennepin County is working with 11 of its cities, including Golden Valley, to roll out the Love Local Initiative. Using County allocated CARES Act funding, Hennepin County and the City of Golden Valley are encouraging residents to shop locally and safely.

Rising rates of COVID-19 through the State of Minnesota have required dial-back measures to keep businesses and residents safe. While necessary, these measures create new challenges for businesses in a year full of hardship. Residents are strongly encouraged to shop local this holiday season so we can all get back to business as usual soon.

You can reduce the risk of COVID-19 while supporting your favorite local businesses by:

  • shopping online
  • ordering takeout
  • shopping alone
  • wearing a mask properly when visiting in-person
  • visiting stores briefly and during off-peak hours
  • washing your hands frequently
  • staying home if you’re feeling sick

The Love Local Initiative also supports coordinated public space improvements to help with COVID-19 safety and the overall shopping experience, including outdoor heaters, hand sanitizing stations, and artist-decorated dome installations.

As public health guidance continues to change, the Love Local Initiative will evolve to remain consistent with the latest COVID-19 public health recommendations and guidelines.

Learn more about the initiative on the Hennepin County website. See the latest public health guidelines on the Minnesota Department of Health website.
