Although plastic is a versatile material with many uses, it is also concerning as it presents health risks, contributes to litter and pollution, and is hard to dispose of. Some of the worst forms are packaging and single-use plastics like straws and grocery bags. Hennepin County’s latest environmental initiative aims at getting its residents to stop using these materials.

The City of Golden Valley is developing a Green Building Guide in hopes of encouraging residents to choose ‘greener’ options when performing home improvement projects. Green building is a process that reduces and/or eliminates negative environmental impacts over the course of a building’s life-cycle.

Since the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) was first identified in Golden Valley in July 2018, several more infested ash trees have been confirmed throughout the community. The City is continuing its EAB management efforts by annually removing and replacing ash trees, conducting public education, and completing tree inventories.
