The Golden Valley Human Rights Commission (HRC) has named Gloria Peck and Ruth Paradise recipients of the 2019 Bill Hobbs Human Rights Award for their work in building an environment that promotes fair and equal treatment for everyone in Golden Valley. Both awards were presented at the Dec 17 City Council meeting.

The Golden Valley Parks and Recreation Department’s Junior Playground Leader program is an opportunity to provide youth ages 14-15 with leadership experience and valuable work skills by working with recreation staff.

The City’s Adopt-A-Park program relies heavily on volunteers when it comes to keeping its parks clean and beautiful. In 2019, the department is hoping that a few dedicated individuals step up to adopt its last few remaining parks—like the group who has adopted Lions Park.

This year the Golden Valley Human Rights Commission (HRC) is expanding its annual Day of Service into a full Week of Service in an effort to increase participation in the Golden Valley community.

Volunteers are needed to help City and Hennepin County staff plant trees and other vegetation along Winnetka Ave Oct 21 from approximately 9 am to noon. Light refreshments and a lunch will be served. The rain didn’t keep the celebration at bay as dozens of attendees came out for the Covenant Village of Golden Valley dedication of a brand new Little Free Library at the City’s St Croix Park. The event also doubled as a grand opening for the new St Croix Park playground, which was installed this summer.
