SEA School-Wildwood Park Flood Reduction Project
In March 2020, the Golden Valley City Council authorized the SEA School-Wildwood Park Flood Reduction Project, a planning study to explore the next phase of the Medicine Lake Rd and Winnetka Ave Area Long-Term Flood Mitigation Plan (see map below).

As part of the planning study, the City and its consulting engineer will be updating flood models, engaging with residents and stakeholders, reviewing site conditions, identifying opportunities and challenges, and developing concept plans.
Project Purpose
Primary benefits include:
- reducing flood levels and damages to nearby homes, businesses, and infrastructure
- improving public health and safety
Additional benefits include:
- improving water quality
- increasing ecological diversity
- enhancing wildlife habitat for pollinators like bees and butterflies
- creating educational opportunities for the SEA School
Study Timeline
- April-June 2020: Stakeholder meetings and community input
- The City created an ArcGIS story map for residents to learn about the project and easily share feedback and take a survey. View the story map here.
- This public engage opportunity ended June 30, 4:30 pm.
- July-August 2020: Develop concept plans
- September 2020: Present concept plans for public review and comment

- November 2020: Completion of planning study
