Deadline For 2025 MLK Human Rights Contest Is Dec 16

Current News Posted on December 02, 2024

Dr Martin Luther King Jr's quotes reveal over-arching social themes that are a starting point to understanding his larger messages of social justice and collective change. The City's MLK Human Rights Contest provides a path for children and youth to be creative and show how King's quotes connect to them and their community.

The 2025 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Human Rights contest is open to students in grades Pre-K–Kindergarten who live in Golden Valley; attend a school, religious institution, or recreation program in Golden Valley; or attend a Robbinsdale Area District or Hopkins District school.

Students may submit any kind of original work that exemplifies the themes in the quotes below, including artwork, essays, poetry, songs, raps, videos, and more. A $100 prize will be given to one youth in each grade range: Preschool–Kindergarten, 1–3, 4–7, and 8–12.

Entries are due by Monday, Dec 16 at 4 pm and can be emailed to skaempfer@goldenvalleymn.gov or mailed/dropped off care of Seth Kaempfer, 7800 Golden Valley Rd, Golden Valley, MN 55427.

The contest is sponsored by the City’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission. For more complete entry information, visit the City website.

Sharing Dr King’s Message To The World

Quote: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

Quote: “The time is always right to do what is right.”

Quote: “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?' ”

Quote: “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.”
