This year’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, set for April 7–11, helps individuals prepare for seasonal threats, particularly tornadoes. Minnesota experiences an average of 29 tornadoes annually, with 64 tornadoes recorded in 2021, including 22 on December 15 alone.
Tornado Drill
On Thursday, April 10, outdoor warning sirens will sound at 1:45 pm and 6:45 pm to simulate a tornado warning. The first drill is for businesses and schools, while the evening drill is for second-shift workers and families. The City will also test GV Emergency, its mass emergency notification system, at 1:45 pm.
Severe Weather Awareness week is also an ideal time for folks to review and update their emergency preparedness plans and kits. For more information on how to stay safe during severe weather, visit the MNDPS website.
