As summer settles in, Golden Valley reminds residents that seasonal property maintenance isn’t just good practice, it’s required by City Code.
Property Maintenance
- Now that No Mow May has ended, lawns must be trimmed to eight inches or less. While not required, it’s recommended to mow with blades set high enough to avoid removing more than one-third of each grass blade at a time. Be sure to water deeply during dry weeks, reseed any bare spots, and consider long-term landscaping improvements like ground covers or perennials.
- Garbage, recycling and compost containers must be stored out of public view or within 5 feet or a primary or accessory structure except on pickup days. Outdoor items like tools, toys, and furniture should be stored properly. Firewood must be stacked neatly, cut to size, and stored away from property lines.
These standards are outlined in the City’s Property Maintenance Code. Unresolved violations may result in enforcement actions and charges assessed to the property.
