The City of Golden Valley continues to invest in stormwater projects to improve water quality and ecosystem health, reduce flood risk, and enhance public spaces. The following projects are scheduled for construction in late 2025–2026, with opportunities for community engagement throughout the year.
Sochacki Park Water Quality Improvement Project
This project, led by Three Rivers Park District in partnership with the Cities of Robbinsdale and Golden Valley and the Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission (BCWMC), aims to restore wetlands in Sochacki Park and improve the water quality of Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ/Bassett Creek. Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ is the Dakota name for the creek which runs through the homeland of the Dakota people.
Key goals include reducing phosphorus pollution by 68 pounds per year, decreasing erosion and sedimentation, enhancing aquatic vegetation, and improving wildlife habitat. The project also aims to support recreation and educational opportunities in the park.
Bassett Creek Restoration Project (Regent Ave to Golden Valley Rd)
The Bassett Creek Restoration Project, a collaborative effort between the BCWMC, the City, and other partners, aims to improve the ecological health of Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ/Bassett Creek, which currently fails to meet state standards for biological integrity (fish and insects), bacteria, and chloride.
This project includes restoring approximately 7,000 feet of stream in eastern Golden Valley and will stabilize streambanks, repair storm sewer outlets, remove invasive species, and restore native vegetation to reduce erosion and pollution, improving water quality and wildlife habitat.
