Join No Mow May To Support Pollinators & A Greener Future

Current News Posted on April 01, 2025

It’s almost time for another year of No Mow May. This initiative asks residents to support ground-nesting insects waking from hibernation by refraining from lawn mowing for a month. Delaying mowing allows additional time for pollinators to emerge from their nesting places and provides more abundant habitat and food to bloom for insects in the spring. It also helps promote conservation practices by delaying the use of equipment, water, and fertilizers.

Participation Guidelines

  • Avoid using pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals that are harmful to pollinators.
  • Harvest or mow unwanted weeds before they go to seed.
  • If you prefer, start small—whether it’s your backyard, side yard, or another area, every bit helps.
  • If needed, keep grass manageable by mowing no more than one-third of its length.

No Mow May participants are exempt from the City’s tall grass ordinance through May. To identify participants, the City requires a fast and free registration. Residents need to register each year before May, even if they have previously registered. Don’t forget to pick up your free yard sign at City Hall while supplies last.

As June approaches, City staff will resume regular maintenance checks, but your participation in No Mow May will greatly help pollinators.
