Take The Stop Food Waste Challenge This August

Current News Posted on July 29, 2025

Nearly 40% of food is wasted somewhere along the supply chain, which is equivalent to stepping out of a grocery store with five bags of food and dropping two in the parking lot. Even small amounts of waste can add up over time.

Hennepin County’s Stop Food Waste Challenge is a month-long effort in August to help households reduce food waste. The challenge encourages participants to become more aware of what they throw away and offer tools, tips, and motivation to make lasting changes.

Participants can choose from daily and one-time actions across a range of categories, including planning, shopping, cooking, storage, community, and kids. Up to five actions can be selected in each category, allowing individuals to tailor the challenge to their household’s needs.
