Black History Month is observed every February in the United States. It celebrates the powerful, transformative contributions the Black community has made and continues to make in all areas of life – from arts, music, and literature to science, education, and politics, among others.
At the Feb 4, 2026, meeting, the City Council passed a proclamation recognizing Black History Month and calling upon community members to acknowledge the indelible impact the Black community has made locally and nationally.
This year’s Black History Month theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” which is established by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.
