Oh, the weather outside is frightful—but not in the way winter recreation enthusiasts may have hoped.
Despite efforts to flood the 16 outdoor ice rinks at 10 locations in City parks, the warmer weather has hampered progress. Public Works staff hoped to have rinks up and running before the end of the year, but with the unseasonably warm temperatures, that wasn't the case.
“Outdoor rinks and warming houses remain closed, and we don’t know when they will open,” said Maddie Champa, recreation coordinator with Golden Valley Parks & Recreation. “People should continue to check the website and social media for updates. We eagerly await cooler temperatures and are ready to start operations once they arrive.”
To stay updated on rink and warming house opening dates, follow the City of Golden Valley on Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, and Twitter, or monitor the Skating Rinks web page on the City website.
