The City of Golden Valley has selected Matt Clark to serve as the interim leader of the Golden Valley Police Department. Clark will serve as department director beginning Friday, Oct 10, 2025 as he completes the pre-employment POST requirements, and he will transition to interim police chief as soon as those requirements are complete.
Clark began his law enforcement career in 1991 and has served in five Minnesota police agencies. He spent 22 years with the Minneapolis Police Department, including three years as assistant chief of police. Clark served as chief of police for the University of Minnesota Police Department for nearly 10 years before retiring in May 2025.
“We look forward to working with Mr Clark, providing support and stability for staff and community, and leading a thorough police chief search process in the coming months,” said City Manager Noah Schuchman. The City will release a request for proposals (RFP) by Monday, Oct 13, seeking an executive search firm to lead the recruitment process for a new chief. “We intend to have selected a search firm, gathered appropriate input from stakeholders, and posted the police chief position before the end of the year,” said Schuchman.
“I am grateful to Mr Clark for joining our team,” said Golden Valley Mayor Roslyn Harmon. “We will continue to prioritize the safety and wellness of staff and the community as we move forward together.”
