May 4, 2025, is International Firefighters’ Day, recognizing the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of firefighters both past and present. In preparation, the Golden Valley City Council read an official proclamation at its April 15 meeting.
The proclamation honors those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, while also expressing appreciation for the individuals who continue to serve the community through fire protection and emergency response.
“Regardless of the language a firefighter speaks, or the country in which they reside, all firefighters fight against the same enemy – fire,” reads the proclamation. “Firefighters follow a long line of tradition and honor that inspires them to help colleagues, neighbors, and strangers, alike.”
International Firefighters’ Day provides an opportunity for communities around the world to thank firefighters for their service and reflect on the physical and emotional tolls that come with the job. Golden Valley’s recognition of the day aligns with the City’s long-standing commitment to public safety and its continued support of the Golden Valley Fire Department.
Residents are encouraged to take a moment on May 4 to thank a firefighter, reflect on their service, and honor the sacrifices they make for the safety of the community.
