Golden Valley Looks Back On 30 Years Of Street Reconstruction, Sets Sights On Infrastructure Renewal

Current News Posted on June 02, 2025

After nearly three decades of street reconstruction, the City of Golden Valley is preparing to shift gears. This year marks the official end of the City's Pavement Management Program (PMP) and the beginning of a new phase focused on long-term infrastructure renewal.

Launched in 1995, the PMP was one of the first of its kind. Using a data-driven approach, the program set out to reconstruct every street in the city. Work included repairing storm sewers, watermains, and sanitary sewer mains, and upgrading curbs and gutters to current City standards. To date, more than 100 miles of streets have been rebuilt.

With the PMP nearing completion, the focus will shift toward maintaining infrastructure. Unlike the PMP, which centered on complete reconstruction, the IRP will emphasize pavement preservation and underground utility repairs. This shift is expected to save time, reduce cost, and limit the need for full-scale road closures in residential neighborhoods.

The City plans to incorporate public input throughout the IRP's development and implementation. Updates on the plan, including timelines and neighborhood impacts, will be shared regularly on the City's website and through letters and emails.
