The City of Golden Valley completed Phase 2 of its lead service line inventory, part of a federal requirement to identify and replace lead pipes in drinking water systems.
In 2024, the City submitted its initial service line materials inventory to the Minnesota Department of Health. That inventory identified one lead line, no galvanized lines requiring replacement, 1,623 unknowns, and 5,783 non-lead service lines. Completing this inventory was an important first step in reducing public health risks from lead exposure.
To build on this work, the City partnered with consultant TKDA in 2025 to help reach more than 700 households that had not responded in the initial phase. Through this effort, 32 homeowners self-reported their service line materials, and TKDA completed 506 visual inspections.
As a result, Golden Valley’s updated inventory now includes 1,091 unknown service lines and 6,276 identified as non-lead.
Next steps will focus on reducing the number of unknowns and preparing for eventual replacement of any lead or galvanized service lines that may be found.
