Are you passionate about shaping the future of your community? Do you have a keen interest in land use regulations and a desire to help property owners navigate zoning challenges? If so, you might be the perfect fit for the City’s Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA).
The BZA reviews and makes decisions on zoning-related matters, providing a space for property owners or applicants to present their case and seek relief from certain zoning restrictions or requirements.
The City’s Zoning Code is a set of regulations that govern how land and buildings can be used in specific areas. These regulations have a profound impact on property owners, influencing everything from the type of structures that can be built to the allowable uses of the land. By serving on the BZA, residents have the opportunity to help property owners navigate these regulations, ensuring they can make the most of their properties while upholding the integrity of the City’s Zoning Code.
Ideal candidates for the BZA enjoy researching alternatives to problems, are organized in their approach, and are accountable and responsible. Appointments for the BZA are made effective May 1 of every year. The City Council appoints four regular members for staggered three-year terms and one youth member. The BZA is currently seeking a youth member for a one-year term. Meetings are held every fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 pm in City Hall.
Applications are due April 5. To learn more, visit the Board of Zoning Appeals web page.
