Golden Valley Unveils New Equity Plan To Shape A Better Community For All

Current News Posted on September 18, 2024

Diversity Is You. Equity Is You. Inclusion Is You.

Imagine a community where everyone—inclusive of all backgrounds—can thrive. The City’s new Equity Plan is designed to do just that by working to break down internal and external inequities. This initiative comes in direct response to requests from community members and City employees to promote social justice and increase equity throughout Golden Valley.

But why does this matter, and why now?

“Historical and present disparities have been perpetuated by the City through its structures, policies, and procedures, specifically towards marginalized communities,” explains Seth Kaempfer, the City’s diversity and inclusion manager. “The new Equity Plan aims to change that by ensuring City services are accessible, fair, and responsive to everyone’s needs.”

The plan was shaped by input from the community, City's staff, and various reports and surveys, which are available to view on the City website. A key feature of the Equity Plan is its commitment to transparency and accountability, and the City will keep everyone posted on progress through an online Equity Plan Dashboard and semi-annual updates.

As the City moves forward with this plan, you are invited to get involved. The plan is designed to be dynamic, with ongoing adjustments based on feedback and the evolving needs of the community. To learn more about the plan, scan the QR code or visit the link below.
