Bike & Pedestrian Plan
As bicycling and walking becomes increasingly popular, the City Council made it a priority to create a bicycle and pedestrian plan to be included in the Transportation Chapter of the City's 2040 Comprehensive Plan. The plan considers Metropolitan Council guiding principles for investment in the Regional Bicycle Transportation Network in the seven county metro area.

Community Input
The City solicited community input on the plan as part of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan update process, eventually appointing a 10-member Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Task Force to discuss goals, options, and potential policies and funding sources before making recommendations to the City Council.
Community members were able to share thoughts about biking and walking around Golden Valley through the Interactive Bike and Pedestrian Map. The process was also guided by a graduate-level Bike Plan Capstone Report (PDF) by Urban and Regional Planning students at the University of Minnesota Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
Bicycle & Pedestrian Planning Task Force Meetings & Annual Updates
In May 2016, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Task Force was created to discuss community goals, options for new facilities, and potential policies and funding sources for implementation. The group is charged with making recommendations on network connections and enhancements to the City Council. The City Council tasked the Open Space and Recreation Commission with receiving annual implementation updates starting in 2021.
