Dr Martin Luther King Human Rights Contest

The DEI Commission hosts the Dr MLK Human Rights Contest to honor the work and legacy of the civil rights leader, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. This is an opportunity for youth in grades Pre-K through12 to participate in a contest by entering a creative submission representing one of the provided quotes. Winners will receive a cash prize.

For 2026, students are asked to submit a creative entry that represents one of the following core values:

  • Courage—Being brave enough to do what's right, even when it's difficult or scary
  • Truth—Choosing honesty and living with integrity by acting and speaking in ways that reflect what is real
  • Justice—Making sure everyone is treated fairly and has the same opportunities
  • Compassion—Deeply caring about other people
  • Dignity—Respecting yourself and others because every person has value
  • HumilityBeing thankful, not boastful, and willing to listen, learn, and give credit to others
  • ServiceHelping others without expecting anything in return
