UPDATE: Storm Restoration Updates
7-29-2025, 11:30 am
Destructive storms moved through the region again last night, bringing heavy rain, hail, and 65 mph winds, and causing over 140,000 Xcel Energy customers to lose power.
Over 2,000 crew members will be deployed today across Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, with additional crews coming in from other regions as needed to assist in restoration efforts. The very large number of individual outages affecting a few customers each have led to longer restoration estimates for some customers.
Visit the Outage Map for updated outage details throughout the day and make sure your account information and communications preferences are up to date through the Xcel Energy website.

7-28-2025, 12:50 pm
On the evening of July 27, 2025, a storm passed through Golden Valley, downing trees and causing power outages.
The City’s main priorities after major storms are to clear streets and right-of-ways of downed trees and storm debris, maintain the safety of public property, and monitor Bassett Creek for significant obstructions.
Downed and damaged trees on private property, or downed limbs originating from trees on private property, are the responsibility of the property owner.
If you have storm debris on your property, contact your garbage hauler or a tree removal service for assistance. You will find information about yard waste disposal sites on the City website at www.goldenvalleymn.gov/325/Yard-Waste-Disposal.
If you have questions about a downed tree in Golden Valley obstructing the right-of-way or Bassett Creek, contact Golden Valley Public Works at 763-593-3962.

Xcel Energy Working To Restore Power After Sunday's Storm
7-28-2025, 10 am
Xcel Energy crews are working to assess damage and safely restore power to customers as quickly as possible as storms last evening brought in lightning, heavy rain, hail and winds over 60 miles per hour.
Electric outages are currently affecting about 39,000 customers across Minnesota, with the majority of them in the Twin Cities metro. Visit the Outage Map for an updated count throughout the day. Customers who are experiencing outages should check for damage to their mast, which is the electric service connection to their home or business. If the mast is damaged, a licensed electrician must make repairs and it must be inspected before service can be restored. See the Outage Checklist for more information.
Workers are in the field and working to safely restore power as quickly as possible. As they work, the company reminds everyone else to stay away from downed or sagging power lines. Always assume an electric line, even one on the ground, is energized and dangerous. Never touch or move a downed power line; instead, leave the area and report it immediately by calling 1-800-895-1999.
Xcel Energy knows losing power is difficult and the company thanks customers for their patience and support of its crews.
