Parking On Public Streets

Parking regulations help ensure safety and order for all who use Golden Valley's public street system as well as adequate access for emergency vehicles and maintenance equipment (see the City Code, Chapter 26 for a complete listing of parking regulations).

Throughout Golden Valley, vehicles on public streets may not be stopped, parked, or left standing upon any street for a continuous period of more than 72 hours. When authorized by the City Council, certain streets, blocks, or portions of streets or blocks may be designated as no parking or limited parking zones. It is unlawful to stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle in a prohibited parking zone. The City may also temporarily suspend parking prohibitions or limitations.

Winter Parking

From November 1 to March 31, parking is prohibited on public streets and alleys from 2 to 6 am, daily. Vehicles may be parked on private property in parking lots and driveways. Residents may request temporary exemptions from the parking restriction by completing an application for a Winter Parking Restriction Waiver Permit. All waivers are temporary and void during snowfalls of 2 inches or more until snow has stopped falling and the streets are cleared curb to curb.

Parking is prohibited on any public street after a snowfall of at least two inches until the snow has been plowed to the curb line. Keep in mind that the Minneapolis snow emergency announcements on TV and radio do not apply to Golden Valley.

After a snowfall of at least two inches, supervisors from the Public Works and Police Departments confer and determine when enforcement will commence. Vehicles in violation are cited by patrolling police, and those still in violation after 24 hours may be towed. After two inches of snowfall, vehicles parked in locations that create an extreme hazard may be towed immediately by the police or at the request of State, County, or City street maintenance personnel.
